We are pleased to announce a call for trainee nominations to attend the 2012 PHIRNET Summer Institute in Montréal, Québec. As a PHIRNET Mentor, you are invited to nominate one trainee to attend the PHIRNET Summer Institute (May 26-28).
Learning Objectives: By the end of the PHIRNET 2012 Summer Institute, participants will acquire new knowledge and skills pertaining to professional development in the field of population health intervention research, including:
1. Getting published (peer-reviewed journals, academic and plain language writing);
2. Getting a job (academic and non-academic);
3. Getting funded (scholarships/fellowships, grants, tri-council and others).
Eligible Nominees
· Graduate students currently enrolled in masters or doctoral programs.
· Postdoctoral fellows whose primary supervisor or co-supervisor is a PHIRNET investigator.
· Prospective graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of PHIRNET investigators.
Applicants also must:
Have research interests and/or a thesis focused on the field of population health intervention research;Prepare and present either a poster or oral presentation related to their project (details to follow).
Be committed to attending the entire duration of PHIRNET Summer Institute.
How to Nominate a Trainee
· Step One: Ask your trainee if they are available and interested in participating in the PHIRNET Summer Institute.
· Step Two: By 10 February, 2012, you must email Rod Knight, PHIRNET UBC Executive Secretariat Coordinator (phirnet.info@ubc.ca) to provide your nominee's full name and the nominee's email address. Rod will forward the nominated trainee a link to register for the PHIRNET SI. A travel agent will then be in touch with the nominated trainee to make travel arrangements.
Travel Expenses
PHIRNET will cover the following costs:

Travel. For those travelling from outside of Montréal, PHIRNET will procure a return airline ticket (lowest economy class) from the applicant's current base to Montréal. Participants are required to provide PHIRNET with both boarding passes within one week of returning home. Participants will be provided with a Metro pass for travel within Montreal. Participants also may travel by train, provided the cost does not exceed that of lowest economy airfare. Trainees can also be reimbursed for use of their personal cars at the Université de Montréal per-kilometer rate ($0.40/kilometer).

Accommodations will be arranged at the Université de Montréal's student residence and paid for by PHIRNET (May 26, 27 and, as required, 28). If trainees wish to arrange alternative accommodations, they may do so at their own expense.

Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) will be provided on 27-28 May at the Université de Montréal. Hors d'oeuvres and snacks will be provided on the evening of May 26.

Participants will be responsible for any additional meals/transportation/hotel and incidental expenses. For example, PHIRNET will not reimburse for expenses or transportation to/from participants' ‘home airport' or meals during travel. We ask mentors to please consider providing their nominated trainees with reimbursement for these additional expenses.
Please note: We can accommodate up to 40 participants. Participants must register online with PHIRNET by 15 February 2012. Each mentor has the opportunity to nominate one participant. If there is space remaining, mentors participating in the Summer Institute scientific program will have the opportunity to nominate an additional trainee.
