University of Toronto offering graduate-level course:
“Tobacco and Health: From Cells to Society”

Tobacco and Health: From Cells to Society” has been offered as an elective at the University of Toronto since 2003. This 13-week course provides students with a comprehensive overview of tobacco and tobacco-related issues from a public health perspective. The course focuses on patterns, determinants and health effects of tobacco use, the causes, impacts and interventions regarding nicotine addiction, and the prevention of tobacco use. There are no prerequisites.

SUMMER INSTITUTE 2011

JUNE, 2011 - Montréal, Québec

 We are pleased to announce a call for trainee nominations by PHIRNET Mentors to attend the 2011 PHIRNET Summer Institute in Montréal, Québec. As a PHIRNET Mentor, you are invited to nominate one trainee to attend both the PHIRNET Summer Institute (June 18 to 19 and the afternoon of 20) and the Canadian Public Health Association Conference (June 19 to 22).

Learning Objectives: By the the PHIRNET 2011 Summer Institute, participants will be able to:

  • Describe theoretical perspectives employed within PHIR;
  • Differentiate and discuss research designs and tools used in PHIR;
  • Identify mechanisms for implementing effective KT between policy/program decision-makers and researchers conducting PHIR;
  • Discuss how PHIR perspectives, designs, tools and mechanisms can be applied to/in their own research projects/programs of research.
